Dr. Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi, S.E., M.E. is an Indonesian economist, academic, and public policy expert with extensive experience in academia, government, and the corporate sector. Born in Mandai, South Sulawesi, on May 20, 1975, he earned his Doctorate in Economics from the Faculty of Economics, Universitas Indonesia, in 2005 and served as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2003 to 2004. From 2009 to 2016, he served as Head of the Demographic Institute at Universitas Indonesia and has also been a lecturer at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya. In government, he has held several senior positions, including Deputy for Coordination of Community, Village and Regional Empowerment at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. On February 19, 2025, he was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto as Deputy Head of Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS), bringing his extensive expertise in economics, demography, and public policy to Indonesia’s national statistical development.
